About the YMCA Turkey Trot 5K

This is a Thanksgiving morning road race in Colorado Springs, one of the larger holiday runs in the area. The course is a standard road 5K, and the field draws a wide cross-section of the running community alongside families out for their annual tradition before the holiday meal.

Packet pickup runs the two days before the race at the Briargate YMCA, with race-morning pickup also available inside the same facility. Lines move slower on race day, so picking up early saves some stress. The kids' short race goes off before the main event, so families with little ones will want to account for that timing.

Common Questions About the YMCA Turkey Trot 5K

Will I finish last at the YMCA Turkey Trot 5K?

Almost certainly not. Half the 5K field finished slower than 37:09, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:32:44, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the YMCA Turkey Trot 5K a good first 5K?

With 3,409 finishers there are runners at every pace, so you are never out on your own. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 5K, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the YMCA Turkey Trot 5K?

The 5K winner ran 15:34 while the median finisher took 37:09. That spread points to a broad, mostly recreational field rather than a race dominated by club runners.
