The course runs through Water Works Park, a large green space on the west side of Des Moines with paved and natural surface paths winding through open grounds. Several distance options share the same certified route, so shorter and longer efforts unfold over the same terrain. The park setting keeps things open and unhurried, with plenty of room to spread out from the start.
