About the Whitney's Race 2026

Whitney's Race is held in memory of a Fort Smith woman who kept running and cycling through chemotherapy before pancreatic cancer took her life. The event raises money for the Whitney Marsh Foundation, which supports patients and families across the state and funds research at major cancer centers. The cause is front and center here, and most people in the crowd have a personal reason for showing up.

After the runs finish, the morning opens into a Halloween festival at the Bakery District. Food trucks, live music, carnival games, costume contests, and pumpkin activities fill the grounds, so families tend to stay well into the afternoon.

Common Questions About the Whitney's Race 2026

Will I finish last at the Whitney's Race 2026?

Almost certainly not. Half the 5K field finished slower than 37:59, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:14:30, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Whitney's Race 2026 a good first 5K?

It is a small race (161 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 5K, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Whitney's Race 2026?

The 5K winner ran 16:17 while the median finisher took 37:59. That spread points to a broad, mostly recreational field rather than a race dominated by club runners.
