About the Whitefish Trail Blazer

The weekend splits into two distinct days of trail running. The longer ultramarathon takes on serious climbing, including a push to the top of Big Mountain, across miles of single and double-track. The following day, shorter courses wind through the Beaver Lakes section of the Whitefish Trail, starting and finishing at the Whitefish Legacy Center, with terrain options that range from gentle to genuinely hilly.

Registration closes before race morning, so there is no day-of signup for any distance. Post-race includes lunch, beer, and non-alcoholic drinks. No pets are allowed on the course.

Common Questions About the Whitefish Trail Blazer

Will I finish last at the Whitefish Trail Blazer?

Almost certainly not. Half the 50K field finished slower than 6:45:22, and the last recorded finisher came in around 9:33:22, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Whitefish Trail Blazer a good first 50K?

It is a small race (158 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 50K, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Whitefish Trail Blazer?

The 50K winner ran 4:02:03 while the median finisher took 6:45:22. That spread points to a mixed field, with a competitive front and a big recreational middle.
