About the Whitefish Marathon, Half Marathon & 5K

All distances start together at Depot Park and follow the same course before splitting apart. The marathon and half run together for the first half of the race, so there is a substantial shared stretch before they diverge. The mountains around Whitefish stay visible for most of the route, and the terrain is road throughout with no significant elevation drama.

Everything finishes back at Depot Park, where the post-race gathering has room to spread out. Starting and finishing in the same place keeps logistics straightforward, and having the whole field launch together gives the early miles a sense of occasion regardless of which distance you are running.

Common Questions About the Whitefish Marathon, Half Marathon & 5K

Will I finish last at the Whitefish Marathon, Half Marathon & 5K?

Almost certainly not. Half the 3.1 Miles field finished slower than 39:32, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:58:15, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Whitefish Marathon, Half Marathon & 5K a good first 3.1 Miles?

A field of 733 is big enough that you will have company at your pace without feeling lost in a crowd. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 3.1 Miles, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Whitefish Marathon, Half Marathon & 5K?

The 3.1 Miles winner ran 17:22 while the median finisher took 39:32. That spread points to a broad, mostly recreational field rather than a race dominated by club runners.
