About the Wausau Marathon
The full marathon starts at Marathon Park and winds out through several surrounding communities before returning. Runners cross the Wisconsin River a few times along the way. The course is gently rolling for most of the route, with the one meaningful climb coming early. It is USATF certified and qualifies for the Abbott world majors, including Boston.
The half marathon routes along the Riverlife trail and crosses the river on the Thomas Street bridge before finishing back at the park. The hilliest section comes near the Marathon County Sports Complex, after which the course turns back west toward the river and the finish.
