About the Walk/Run for Abilis

The race runs through Greenwich Point Park, a waterfront park on a peninsula. The shorter option follows an accessible path, while the longer route is a standard road and path course along the water. The surroundings are open and park-like, with the shore close by for most of it.

The post-race area at the clambake grounds has a carnival setup, with face painting, a balloon artist, and music. The event draws Abilis program participants, their families, and volunteers, so the finish area tends to be busy and social rather than a quick-dispersal scene.

Common Questions About the Walk/Run for Abilis

Will I finish last at the Walk/Run for Abilis?

Almost certainly not. Half the 5K field finished slower than 30:34, and the last recorded finisher came in around 52:21, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Walk/Run for Abilis a good first 5K?

It is a small race (119 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 5K, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Walk/Run for Abilis?

The 5K winner ran 19:25 while the median finisher took 30:34. That spread points to a mixed field, with a competitive front and a big recreational middle.
