About the VARRA Firecracker 5k
The race runs through Riverside Park on the holiday, with a morning start timed to beat the summer heat. The route is a standard road course in a park setting, kept short enough that families are a real presence out there alongside faster runners.
Bib pickup happens race morning at Riverside Stadium, and every runner must show up in person to collect theirs. Parking is at the Riverside Stadium lot. The race uses chip tags that clip to your hips rather than embedding in the bib, so make sure nothing covers them on the way out.

The VARRA Firecracker 5k has been held every year since at least 2020. That is as far back as RunSignup's records for this race go, so it may well be older.
How we calculate these stats: RunSesh calculates these figures from the most recent published results of past editions, sourced from RunSignup. We show aggregates only: field size, winning and median times, and the cutoff. We never publish individual finisher tables. Last updated Oct 25, 2026.
