About the Unity Wellness Center World AIDS Day Run/Walk

This race is tied to World AIDS Day and is organized by a local HIV care and wellness center, so the morning carries some weight beyond the finish line. Dogs are welcome on leashes, and the start and finish area at Town Creek Park has bathrooms nearby. Raffle and refreshments follow the run.

Packet pickup runs the evening before at a bottle and brew shop in Opelika, with race-morning pickup available at the park as well. Course marshals are posted along the route to keep runners on track.

Common Questions About the Unity Wellness Center World AIDS Day Run/Walk

Will I finish last at the Unity Wellness Center World AIDS Day Run/Walk?

Almost certainly not. Half the 5K field finished slower than 34:34, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:06:35, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Unity Wellness Center World AIDS Day Run/Walk a good first 5K?

It is a small race (106 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 5K, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Unity Wellness Center World AIDS Day Run/Walk?

The 5K winner ran 18:32 while the median finisher took 34:34. That spread points to a mixed field, with a competitive front and a big recreational middle.
