About the UAB Veterans Day 5K

Railroad Park sits in the middle of Birmingham, and the course runs through it. The park has open green space and paved paths, so the footing is consistent and the route stays relatively flat. The race is chip timed and draws a wide range of participants, with the proceeds going toward emergency funding for military-connected students.

Packet pickup runs the two evenings before the race at the UAB Hill Student Center. Race-morning pickup opens well before the start, also on site at Railroad Park. The start area is organized with registration and volunteer support throughout the morning.

Common Questions About the UAB Veterans Day 5K

Will I finish last at the UAB Veterans Day 5K?

Almost certainly not. Half the 3.11 Miles field finished slower than 38:40, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:13:00, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the UAB Veterans Day 5K a good first 3.11 Miles?

A field of 697 is big enough that you will have company at your pace without feeling lost in a crowd. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 3.11 Miles, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the UAB Veterans Day 5K?

The 3.11 Miles winner ran 17:31 while the median finisher took 38:40. That spread points to a broad, mostly recreational field rather than a race dominated by club runners.
