About the Turkey Leg 5K Run
The Turkey Leg 5K runs through the streets of Willmar on Thanksgiving morning, starting and finishing at the Kandiyohi County YMCA. The course is paved the whole way, winding through neighborhood roads rather than trails or track. It is flat enough to be accessible, and the Thanksgiving timing draws plenty of costumes, with a prize for the best-dressed runner.
Race-morning registration and packet pickup both open before the start, so you can show up without having sorted things out beforehand. There is water at roughly the halfway point. After the race, snacks and a drink are available at the finish. Awards include recognition for the largest family group, which gives the whole thing a reunion-style pull for groups coming out together.
