About the Tupelo Marathon and 14er

The course runs out on rolling country roads and comes back the same way, so you get a good sense of what is ahead before you turn around. The longer distance splits off near the halfway point and comes back earlier. Both options share the same route, the same terrain, and the same aid stations, which stay in place for returning runners. Water and Gatorade are at each stop.

Packet pickup is the afternoon before, at a tent behind a shopping strip off Coley Road. Race-morning pickup is available under the same tent a short time before the start. Marathon runners can park in a raised lot nearby; the lot directly behind the businesses is reserved for handicap parking and tenants. Post-race food and drinks are in the gravel lot behind the same building.

Common Questions About the Tupelo Marathon and 14er

Will I finish last at the Tupelo Marathon and 14er?

Almost certainly not. Half the 14.2 Miles field finished slower than 2:23:21, and the last recorded finisher came in around 4:29:52, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Tupelo Marathon and 14er a good first 14.2 Miles?

It is a small race (160 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 14.2 Miles, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Tupelo Marathon and 14er?

The 14.2 Miles winner ran 1:22:38 while the median finisher took 2:23:21. That spread points to a mixed field, with a competitive front and a big recreational middle.
