About the Tri-County Kentucky United Way Spirit 5K

The course winds through downtown Bardstown, so you are running past the kind of storefronts and side streets that give a small city its character. It is a certified route, which means the distance is measured properly, and the surroundings do most of the work of keeping it interesting. Awards go deep into age groups, and there are trophies and special recognition from Heaven Hill Brands for top finishers.

Packet pickup runs the evening before at the Nelson County Civic Center on South Third Street, with race-morning pickup available at the same location before the start. The post-race reception, also supported by Heaven Hill Brands, gives you somewhere to land after you finish. This race is part of a three-event series with other local races in the area, if you want to string them together.

Common Questions About the The Tri-County Kentucky United Way Spirit 5K

Will I finish last at the Tri-County Kentucky United Way Spirit 5K?

Almost certainly not. Half the 5K field finished slower than 33:59, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:02:57, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Tri-County Kentucky United Way Spirit 5K a good first 5K?

It is a small race (140 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 5K, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Tri-County Kentucky United Way Spirit 5K?

The 5K winner ran 17:45 while the median finisher took 33:59. That spread points to a broad, mostly recreational field rather than a race dominated by club runners.
