About the Pirate 5k Run/Walk

The race starts outside a historic Episcopal church whose graveyard holds what locals call the Pirate's Grave, said to belong to a man some believe was Jean Lafitte living under a false name. From there, the route heads to a paved rail trail through the middle of town, runs south to its end, doubles back, then winds through a few residential blocks to the finish.

Packet pickup is available the evening before at the Parish House on site, with a second window on race morning before the start.

Common Questions About the The Pirate 5k Run/Walk

Will I finish last at the Pirate 5k Run/Walk?

Almost certainly not. Half the 3.1 Miles field finished slower than 31:46, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:14:26, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Pirate 5k Run/Walk a good first 3.1 Miles?

It is a small race (136 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 3.1 Miles, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Pirate 5k Run/Walk?

The 3.1 Miles winner ran 18:28 while the median finisher took 31:46. That spread points to a mixed field, with a competitive front and a big recreational middle.
