About the M&T Bank Vermont City Marathon & Relay

The course moves through Burlington's streets and out along Lake Champlain, with the Adirondack Mountains visible across the water. There is one real climb early, then the route settles into rolling terrain with long flat stretches. The Church Street Marketplace and the Burlington Bike Path are both part of the course, so you get the city's core and its waterfront in the same run.

Several distance options share the same course, including solo and relay formats, so the field is a mix of marathon runners and relay teams trading off throughout the race. Youth events run alongside the main weekend, which gives the whole thing a neighborhood feeling rather than a purely competitive one.
