About the Little Miami Trail Challenge @ John Bryan

All distances start and finish at the Lower Stone Shelter in John Bryan State Park, routing through a limestone gorge carved by the Little Miami River. The gorge is a National Natural Landmark, and the trail reflects that: rooty, rolling, with real elevation change on the longer distances. This is proper trail running, not a paved path with a dirt shoulder.

Check-in opens before the pre-race meeting, which the race director uses to walk through course markings. The campground inside the park is an option, though it books up early. A nearby lodging spot in Xenia, a short drive away, offers vintage campers and guest rooms as an alternative.

Common Questions About the The Little Miami Trail Challenge @ John Bryan

Will I finish last at the Little Miami Trail Challenge @ John Bryan?

Almost certainly not. Half the 10K field finished slower than 1:14:09, and the last recorded finisher came in around 2:32:07, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Little Miami Trail Challenge @ John Bryan a good first 10K?

It is a small race (36 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 10K, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Little Miami Trail Challenge @ John Bryan?

The 10K winner ran 53:59 while the median finisher took 1:14:09. That spread points to a relatively quick field, so expect a competitive front end.
