About the ORRRC Winter Solstice Trail Run

The course runs through John Bryan State Park on trail, winding through the kind of terrain that rewards trail shoes and patience. It is a proper trail distance with generous time limits, so walkers and slower runners can settle in without watching the clock too closely. The park is the whole point here, and the woods carry the race.

Check-in happens race morning, and the organizers recommend arriving well before the start to park, get your timing chip at the green-tablecloth table, and shake out your legs. ORRRC members run free, which makes this a regular stop for locals who belong to the club.

Common Questions About the ORRRC Winter Solstice Trail Run

Will I finish last at the ORRRC Winter Solstice Trail Run?

Almost certainly not. Half the 13.4 Miles field finished slower than 2:43:15, and the last recorded finisher came in around 4:46:04, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the ORRRC Winter Solstice Trail Run a good first 13.4 Miles?

It is a small race (121 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 13.4 Miles, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the ORRRC Winter Solstice Trail Run?

The 13.4 Miles winner ran 1:41:00 while the median finisher took 2:43:15. That spread points to a mixed field, with a competitive front and a big recreational middle.
