About the Hoot Half Marathon & 10k Trail Race

The course runs through Alum Creek State Park on a trail system known for its rocks and roots, and the name is not just branding. Summer conditions mean the technical footing is paired with heat, so this is not a course that lets you zone out. The route loops north first, then south, with a short connector segment for the half marathon distance.

Packet pickup runs at a local running store in Lewis Center across the couple of days before the race, during normal business hours, with race-morning pickup available at the park. The start is just off Hollenback Road, near the dog park, so parking and orientation are straightforward once you find that turn.

How we calculate these stats: RunSesh calculates these figures from the most recent published results of past editions, sourced from RunSignup. We show aggregates only: field size, winning and median times, and the cutoff. We never publish individual finisher tables. Last updated Sep 16, 2026.

Common Questions About the The Hoot Half Marathon & 10k Trail Race

Will I finish last at the Hoot Half Marathon & 10k Trail Race?

Almost certainly not. Half the 6.2 Miles field finished slower than 29:09, and the last recorded finisher came in around 59:45, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Hoot Half Marathon & 10k Trail Race a good first 6.2 Miles?

It is a small race (126 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 6.2 Miles, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Hoot Half Marathon & 10k Trail Race?

The 6.2 Miles winner ran 0:15 while the median finisher took 29:09. That spread points to a broad, mostly recreational field rather than a race dominated by club runners.
