About the Dr. O Memorial 5K Walk/Run
This race honors a physician who spent decades providing street medicine to unhoused patients, and the cause stays present on race day. The route is a standard road distance through Lewis Center, and the pace of the field tends to reflect the spirit of the man it remembers, someone who ran with colleagues and students for the joy of it.
The Street Medicine team sets up at the start area to collect gently used clothing, hoodies and athletic shoes especially, for patients in the program. Bringing a donation enters you into a raffle. It gives the post-race gathering a purpose beyond the usual milling around.
