About the Hill Topper 5k

The course winds through the Church Hill neighborhood and its parks, so expect real hills rather than a flat loop. The surroundings are residential and leafy, and the route drops you into Patrick Henry Park at the finish, where the Church Hill Irish Festival is already underway around you.

Packet pickup runs on the evenings before the race at the Rotary Club tent in the east corner of Patrick Henry Park, with an earlier option at a location still to be confirmed. Race-morning pickup is also available at the festival site, which makes the start-area logistics pretty straightforward.

Common Questions About the The Hill Topper 5k

Will I finish last at the Hill Topper 5k?

Almost certainly not. Half the 5K field finished slower than 31:00, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:02:34, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Hill Topper 5k a good first 5K?

A field of 323 is big enough that you will have company at your pace without feeling lost in a crowd. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 5K, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Hill Topper 5k?

The 5K winner ran 18:29 while the median finisher took 31:00. That spread points to a mixed field, with a competitive front and a big recreational middle.
