About the Cupcake Classic 3K

The course runs on paved roads through Wellington Park in south Lexington. It is a short, quick route, the kind you can push hard from the start without pacing yourself too carefully. The race supports VIPS, a nonprofit focused on early vision support for children, and that purpose draws a crowd that includes families alongside runners.

Packet pickup happens at the park pavilion on race night before the start, so there is no separate trip the day before. BabyCakes cupcakes and ice cream are at the finish, along with a DJ and a team competition for those who come in a group.

Common Questions About the The Cupcake Classic 3K

Will I finish last at the Cupcake Classic 3K?

Almost certainly not. Half the 3K field finished slower than 19:26, and the last recorded finisher came in around 38:11, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Cupcake Classic 3K a good first 3K?

It is a small race (90 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 3K, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Cupcake Classic 3K?

The 3K winner ran 10:50 while the median finisher took 19:26. That spread points to a mixed field, with a competitive front and a big recreational middle.
