About the Brooks Orca Half Marathon

The course runs point to point along the western shoreline, heading from a park at the south end of Seattle toward a boat launch finish at the water's edge. A couple of short out-and-back stretches come early, and a longer one opens up toward the end, so you will double back on yourself a few times before you are done.

Common Questions About the The Brooks Orca Half Marathon

Will I finish last at the Brooks Orca Half Marathon?

Almost certainly not. Half the 13.1 Miles field finished slower than 2:11:12, and the last recorded finisher came in around 4:15:48, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Brooks Orca Half Marathon a good first 13.1 Miles?

With 1,007 finishers there are runners at every pace, so you are never out on your own. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 13.1 Miles, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Brooks Orca Half Marathon?

The 13.1 Miles winner ran 1:17:19 while the median finisher took 2:11:12. That spread points to a mixed field, with a competitive front and a big recreational middle.

Where can I train for the Brooks Orca Half Marathon?

Join a local run club. Club Northwest, Seattle Running Club, West Seattle Running Club and others in Seattle welcome runners of all paces, and a weekly group run is the most reliable way to hold a training block together.
