About the Big Cross Frozen Tundra

The course runs on woodchip, gravel, and dirt trails at Big Cross in Pasco. It is not flat: there are several genuine hill climbs and descents spread through the loop, with flatter stretches between them. Runners doing the longer distance repeat the loop, so you learn the hills once and then meet them again.

Bibs are picked up on race morning at the start area, sorted by distance and last name. The race draws from local high school cross country and track communities, so expect some school spirit in the crowd and among the participants.

Common Questions About the The Big Cross Frozen Tundra

Will I finish last at the Big Cross Frozen Tundra?

Almost certainly not. Half the 2.5 Miles field finished slower than 30:33, and the last recorded finisher came in around 47:59, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Big Cross Frozen Tundra a good first 2.5 Miles?

It is a small race (72 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 2.5 Miles, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Big Cross Frozen Tundra?

The 2.5 Miles winner ran 17:14 while the median finisher took 30:33. That spread points to a mixed field, with a competitive front and a big recreational middle.
