About the Summer Meltdown Half Marathon - Houston

The course runs through Brazos River Park, with shaded paths and natural surroundings that offer some relief from the summer heat. A DJ keeps things moving at the start area, and the crew announces runners by name as they finish. Awards go deep into age groups, so plenty of people leave with hardware.

Kona Ice is at the finish, which matters more than it sounds when you are done running in summer heat. The post-race area has snacks and music, and the energy from the staff and crowd sticks around well past the last finisher.

Common Questions About the Summer Meltdown Half Marathon - Houston

Will I finish last at the Summer Meltdown Half Marathon - Houston?

Almost certainly not. Half the 13.1 Miles field finished slower than 2:29:24, and the last recorded finisher came in around 3:50:45, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Summer Meltdown Half Marathon - Houston a good first 13.1 Miles?

It is a small race (143 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 13.1 Miles, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Summer Meltdown Half Marathon - Houston?

The 13.1 Miles winner ran 1:28:15 while the median finisher took 2:29:24. That spread points to a mixed field, with a competitive front and a big recreational middle.
