About the Steps Toward a Cure: Michigan 5k, Kids Fun Run, and Walk
The course runs through Kensington Metropark, with several distance options so families and faster runners can take part on the same morning. The setting is a park picnic area, which shapes the whole event: kids' activities are set up nearby, and the post-race spread includes bagels, coffee, and a lunch. It is organized around a cause, the Dravet Syndrome Foundation, and that gives the crowd a particular warmth.
Packet pickup happens on-site the morning of the event, so there is no separate trip the day before. After the running is done, the picnic shelter hosts a raffle and games. The start and finish are both centered on that shelter, which keeps everything in one place and makes it easy to move between the activities.
