The course starts at a sculpture locals call the Snake, out on East Road near the EMRTC grounds. That puts you on the eastern edge of Socorro, away from downtown traffic, with open desert surroundings. The race is part of a fall series put on by the Socorro Striders and Riders, so the crowd tends to be regulars who know each other.
