The course starts with a steep climb right out of the gate, which sorts out pacing early. After that, it rolls through neighborhoods and parks before dropping down Broadway into downtown for the finish. The downhill at the end is real, and most runners find themselves moving faster than expected in the final stretch.
Proceeds from the race support the local parks and recreation department, so the event has a practical reason behind it beyond the race itself.
