About the Spring in the Vines 5K

The course runs through the grounds of Autumn Lake Winery, looping around a couple of lakes and out through the vineyards. Underfoot you get hard-packed dirt, grass, and sand, and if there has been recent rain, expect mud in spots. It is a trail run through working winery land, which gives it a different feel from a road race.

The top male and female finishers each take home awards. Kids running with a paying adult get in free, so families tend to show up in numbers. The winery setting means there is usually something to linger over after you finish.

Common Questions About the Spring in the Vines 5K

Will I finish last at the Spring in the Vines 5K?

Almost certainly not. Half the 5K field finished slower than 32:35, and the last recorded finisher came in around 42:32, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Spring in the Vines 5K a good first 5K?

It is a small race (32 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 5K, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Spring in the Vines 5K?

The 5K winner ran 18:04 while the median finisher took 32:35. That spread points to a mixed field, with a competitive front and a big recreational middle.
