About the Spring Dash

The course starts and finishes at McEuen Park, right along the lakefront. Expect blooming trees and water views for most of the route, with the kind of spring morning air that makes you glad you signed up. Several distance options mean the park fills with runners of very different paces, all sharing the same scenery.

Packet pickup runs the afternoon before the race at a local outdoor and ski shop, which has plenty of parking and a small expo with running gear on sale. If you miss that, race-morning pickup opens early at the pavilion in McEuen Park. Strollers are allowed at the back of the start. There is no race-day registration, so sort that out beforehand.

Common Questions About the Spring Dash

Will I finish last at the Spring Dash?

Almost certainly not. Half the 5K field finished slower than 43:19, and the last recorded finisher came in around 2:04:47, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Spring Dash a good first 5K?

A field of 619 is big enough that you will have company at your pace without feeling lost in a crowd. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 5K, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Spring Dash?

The 5K winner ran 17:27 while the median finisher took 43:19. That spread points to a broad, mostly recreational field rather than a race dominated by club runners.
