About the Splash of Color 5K

This is a color run where volunteers throw powder at you as you move through the course. The color is biodegradable and non-toxic, and if you would rather avoid most of it, you can stick to one side of the route. The race benefits an early childhood education center in Evansville, so the crowd skews toward families with young kids.

Packet pickup runs the afternoon before at the beneficiary organization, with race-morning pickup available as a backup near the start area. The venue itself had not been announced at the time this was written, so watch the race website for the location and parking details once they go live.

Common Questions About the Splash of Color 5K

Will I finish last at the Splash of Color 5K?

Almost certainly not. Half the 5K field finished slower than 39:22, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:00:52, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Splash of Color 5K a good first 5K?

It is a small race (169 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 5K, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Splash of Color 5K?

The 5K winner ran 19:48 while the median finisher took 39:22. That spread points to a broad, mostly recreational field rather than a race dominated by club runners.
