About the Smith Mountain Lake Walk to End Poverty
The course runs through Smith Mountain Lake State Park, so the surroundings are wooded and close to the water. The route is open to walkers and runners alike, and the pace of the morning tends to follow that. It is a fundraising event at its core, with teams and individuals raising money for neighbors dealing with poverty, so the atmosphere reflects that purpose.
The race is organized by Lake Christian Ministries, a local nonprofit, and the entry fees and donations go directly toward food, housing assistance, and job support for families in the area. If that mission matters to you, the dollars you raise here stay in the lake community.
