About the 18th Annual Sleighbell 5K Run/Walk

The course runs on paved trail systems outside Williamsburg, linking three named trails into a single loop. The terrain is trail-adjacent rather than road, which gives it a different feel from a typical neighborhood 5K. There is also a competitive walk division, not just an open one, so walkers are racing seriously too.

Packet pickup runs the afternoon before at a local running store on Jamestown Road, with race-morning pickup available before the start. The race supports a school health program and a local food consortium, and runners are encouraged to bring canned goods. An ugly sweater contest after the run tends to keep people around past the finish line.

Common Questions About the 18th Annual Sleighbell 5K Run/Walk

Will I finish last at the 18th Annual Sleighbell 5K Run/Walk?

Almost certainly not. Half the 5K field finished slower than 34:15, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:08:27, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the 18th Annual Sleighbell 5K Run/Walk a good first 5K?

A field of 730 is big enough that you will have company at your pace without feeling lost in a crowd. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 5K, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the 18th Annual Sleighbell 5K Run/Walk?

The 5K winner ran 17:17 while the median finisher took 34:15. That spread points to a broad, mostly recreational field rather than a race dominated by club runners.
