About the Skylar's Run - 5K for Clean Water

This race is built around a cause: clean water for families in Kenya. The course is a point to point with a couple of out-and-back sections, recently rerouted to cut out a steep hill that used to feature on the east meadow loop. There is also a shorter, paved accessible loop for walkers and wheelchair users.

The event is held in a park, with sign-in opening well before the start. Post-race, there are drinks and snacks at the finish. The race's namesake and his father run together as a through-line for the whole morning, and a photo opportunity with them wraps things up after all events finish.

Common Questions About the Skylar's Run - 5K for Clean Water

Will I finish last at the Skylar's Run - 5K for Clean Water?

Almost certainly not. Half the 5K field finished slower than 40:32, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:03:13, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Skylar's Run - 5K for Clean Water a good first 5K?

It is a small race (74 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 5K, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Skylar's Run - 5K for Clean Water?

The 5K winner ran 19:11 while the median finisher took 40:32. That spread points to a broad, mostly recreational field rather than a race dominated by club runners.
