About the Seattle Kraken 5K

The course runs through Green Lake Park, looping the lake on paved paths. It is flat and smooth, which makes it popular with a wide range of paces. The surrounding park has a neighborhood feel, with trees and the water close by for most of the route. A costume contest before the start sets the tone for the morning.

Packet pickup happens at several local running stores and at the Kraken Community Iceplex in the days before the race. On race day, shuttles run from the Iceplex to the park. A beer garden opens near the finish as runners come in, and an awards ceremony wraps up the event shortly after.

How we calculate these stats: RunSesh calculates these figures from the most recent published results of past editions, sourced from RunSignup. We show aggregates only: field size, winning and median times, and the cutoff. We never publish individual finisher tables. Last updated Oct 16, 2026.

Common Questions About the Seattle Kraken 5K

Will I finish last at the Seattle Kraken 5K?

Almost certainly not. Half the 5K field finished slower than 37:29, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:39:16, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Seattle Kraken 5K a good first 5K?

With 2,235 finishers there are runners at every pace, so you are never out on your own. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 5K, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Seattle Kraken 5K?

The 5K winner ran 15:40 while the median finisher took 37:29. That spread points to a broad, mostly recreational field rather than a race dominated by club runners.

Where can I train for the Seattle Kraken 5K?

Join a local run club. Club Northwest, Seattle Running Club, West Seattle Running Club and others in Seattle welcome runners of all paces, and a weekly group run is the most reliable way to hold a training block together.
