About the Salute to Service

The race runs over Memorial Day weekend and benefits a local firefighters' hardship fund, so the cause stays close to home. Post-race, the finish leads into a pool party at The Marker Resort, which is also the host hotel and the center of both days' activity.

Packet pickup runs the afternoon before the race at The Marker, with a shorter window on race morning as a backup. Post-race snacks and an awards ceremony happen on site, so there is no need to go far after you finish.

Common Questions About the Salute to Service

Will I finish last at the Salute to Service?

Almost certainly not. Half the race field finished slower than 36:23, and the last recorded finisher came in around 57:47, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Salute to Service a good first race?

It is a small race (53 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first race, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Salute to Service?

The race winner ran 19:30 while the median finisher took 36:23. That spread points to a mixed field, with a competitive front and a big recreational middle.
