About the Salt Lake City Marathon

The course starts at the Olympic Legacy Bridge and works through city neighborhoods before dropping into downtown. The Wasatch Mountains are visible for most of the run, which gives the whole thing a backdrop that is hard to ignore. There is some real elevation change here; this is not a flat course, and the mountain scenery pairs with mountain terrain.

Packet pickup happens at the Salt Lake Running Company on the east side of the city, with slots available the two evenings before the race and on race morning itself. You reserve a time window in advance. Unclaimed gear check items are held at that same running store for a couple of weeks after the event.

Common Questions About the Salt Lake City Marathon

Will I finish last at the Salt Lake City Marathon?

Almost certainly not. Half the 13.1 Miles field finished slower than 2:13:37, and the last recorded finisher came in around 5:55:39, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Salt Lake City Marathon a good first 13.1 Miles?

With 4,261 finishers there are runners at every pace, so you are never out on your own. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 13.1 Miles, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Salt Lake City Marathon?

The 13.1 Miles winner ran 1:08:11 while the median finisher took 2:13:37. That spread points to a broad, mostly recreational field rather than a race dominated by club runners.
