The Salt City Mile runs on a closed criterium course in Salt Lake City, the same circuit used for a cycling race happening the same morning. The course is road surface, flat enough to run fast, and the closed streets give it a clean, uncluttered feel. Prize money is on offer for open and masters categories, so the front of the field tends to be competitive.
