About the Run with the Herd 5K/1K

The course starts and finishes at Oshkosh Arena and winds through downtown Oshkosh. It is a road race on city streets, so the terrain is paved and mostly level. The arena anchors both ends of the route, which gives the finish area a bit of an event feel rather than a quiet park finish.

After the race, there is a fan fest inside the arena with food and refreshments. The start area is the arena itself, so parking and bag storage should be straightforward if you have been to events there before.

Common Questions About the Run with the Herd 5K/1K

Will I finish last at the Run with the Herd 5K/1K?

Almost certainly not. Half the 5K field finished slower than 31:57, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:00:41, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Run with the Herd 5K/1K a good first 5K?

A field of 214 is big enough that you will have company at your pace without feeling lost in a crowd. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 5K, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Run with the Herd 5K/1K?

The 5K winner ran 17:24 while the median finisher took 31:57. That spread points to a mixed field, with a competitive front and a big recreational middle.
