About the Run to END Weekend Hunger 5K

This is a costume-friendly 5K that benefits a weekend hunger relief program for schoolchildren in the Seattle area. Runners are encouraged to show up in full costume, and the field tends to reflect that, with families and pairs in themed outfits mixed in among those just there to run.

After the race, there is coffee, snacks, and a vendor area near the finish. The cause is front and center throughout, so expect the energy to match that, purposeful and a little festive in the literal sense of people dressed up.

Common Questions About the Run to END Weekend Hunger 5K

Will I finish last at the Run to END Weekend Hunger 5K?

Almost certainly not. Half the 5K field finished slower than 36:08, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:17:27, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Run to END Weekend Hunger 5K a good first 5K?

A field of 283 is big enough that you will have company at your pace without feeling lost in a crowd. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 5K, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Run to END Weekend Hunger 5K?

The 5K winner ran 16:53 while the median finisher took 36:08. That spread points to a broad, mostly recreational field rather than a race dominated by club runners.

Where can I train for the Run to END Weekend Hunger 5K?

Join a local run club. Club Northwest, Seattle Running Club, West Seattle Running Club and others in Seattle welcome runners of all paces, and a weekly group run is the most reliable way to hold a training block together.
