About the Run Through Central Park 5K

The course is an out-and-back through tree-lined streets in Plantation, looping around a lake in Central Park before coming back to finish on a track. It runs flat the whole way, so there is nothing tricky underfoot and the open streets give you room to settle into a pace early.

Packet pickup runs the day before at a local running store in a nearby area, with registration and bib pickup available on race morning as well. The race benefits a police survivors charity, and that cause draws a crowd that tends to take the whole morning seriously.

Common Questions About the Run Through Central Park 5K

Will I finish last at the Run Through Central Park 5K?

Almost certainly not. Half the 5K field finished slower than 32:57, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:23:06, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Run Through Central Park 5K a good first 5K?

With 775 finishers there are runners at every pace, so you are never out on your own. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 5K, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Run Through Central Park 5K?

The 5K winner ran 15:56 while the median finisher took 32:57. That spread points to a broad, mostly recreational field rather than a race dominated by club runners.
