About the Run for Freedom, 5K and 10K, + Ruck

The course starts at a high school on the right side of the building, then heads out through a greenway, a local park, and surrounding neighborhoods before looping back to where it began. The terrain mixes paved paths with neighborhood streets, so the footing shifts a bit as you go. Several distance options are available, including a rucking division for those who want to carry a weighted pack.

Packet pickup runs the evening before at a nearby coffee shop, with race-morning pickup available in the hour before the gun. Parking is at the high school, which also serves as the start and finish. The race benefits a nonprofit that supports survivors of human trafficking, so the post-race atmosphere carries a bit more weight than most.

Common Questions About the Run for Freedom, 5K and 10K, + Ruck

Will I finish last at the Run for Freedom, 5K and 10K, + Ruck?

Almost certainly not. Half the 5K field finished slower than 37:48, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:06:23, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Run for Freedom, 5K and 10K, + Ruck a good first 5K?

It is a small race (129 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 5K, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Run for Freedom, 5K and 10K, + Ruck?

The 5K winner ran 20:08 while the median finisher took 37:48. That spread points to a mixed field, with a competitive front and a big recreational middle.
