About the Rumpshaker 5K

The race starts and finishes at a baseball stadium in Birmingham, with a street closure along the start area that keeps the course clear. It benefits colorectal cancer awareness, and the inflatable colon near the donations table gives you a sense of the event's willingness to lean into the cause with some humor. Chip timing handles the results.

Packet pickup runs for several days before the race at a local running store, with race-morning pickup available at the stadium as a backup. Parking is free at a nearby lot, and it is a short walk from there to the start.

Common Questions About the Rumpshaker 5K

Will I finish last at the Rumpshaker 5K?

Almost certainly not. Half the 5K field finished slower than 36:28, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:07:54, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Rumpshaker 5K a good first 5K?

With 1,154 finishers there are runners at every pace, so you are never out on your own. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 5K, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Rumpshaker 5K?

The 5K winner ran 16:33 while the median finisher took 36:28. That spread points to a broad, mostly recreational field rather than a race dominated by club runners.
