About the Rivertown Races

The course starts and finishes at Millennium Park, moving runners over bridges and along paved paths beside lakes and wetlands. The terrain rolls through, so there are changes in elevation to keep things honest. A sports medicine station is positioned on course, and aid is spread across the route at several points.

Packet pickup the evening before is at a local running store, with race-morning pickup available at the park itself. The kids event runs the evening before on the same grounds, so families with younger runners can take care of everything in one trip.

Common Questions About the Rivertown Races

Will I finish last at the Rivertown Races?

Almost certainly not. Half the 13.1 Miles field finished slower than 2:04:30, and the last recorded finisher came in around 3:17:52, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Rivertown Races a good first 13.1 Miles?

A field of 256 is big enough that you will have company at your pace without feeling lost in a crowd. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 13.1 Miles, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Rivertown Races?

The 13.1 Miles winner ran 1:06:30 while the median finisher took 2:04:30. That spread points to a mixed field, with a competitive front and a big recreational middle.
