About the 5th Annual Rising Sun 5K
The course runs through John Prince Park, and the surroundings are what you would expect from a park race: open, flat, and easy to follow. What sets this one apart is the finish. Instead of just crossing a line, you break a board, karate-style, on your way through. The race opens with a martial arts warm-up, which gets the crowd going before anyone takes a step.
The event is put on by the Kickstart Foundation, a nonprofit that teaches martial arts to kids who might not otherwise have access to it. Running here puts money directly toward that work, and the board-break finish ties the whole theme together in a way that is hard to forget, even for someone who has done a lot of races.

Finish-Time Stats
Going by the 2026 results, this is a small, friendly field, and the spread of finish times is wide, so this is a mostly recreational race rather than one for club runners.

How we calculate these stats: RunSesh calculates these figures from the most recent published results of past editions, sourced from RunSignup. We show aggregates only: field size, winning and median times, and the cutoff. We never publish individual finisher tables. Last updated Jul 27, 2026.
