About the Reindeer Stampede 5k/Fun Run

The Reindeer Stampede runs through downtown Richlands and is built around a charitable purpose: proceeds go toward food and personal care supplies for neighbors dealing with food and hygiene insecurity. Holiday costumes are part of the culture here, and there is a costume contest after the race. The course is a road race through the heart of town, and the atmosphere leans festive without being a spectacle.

Packet pickup is offered the evening before at the Blessing Shed on Kinston Highway, and again on race morning at the start area. Refreshments and an awards ceremony follow the race, with age group awards across a wide range of divisions.

Common Questions About the Reindeer Stampede 5k/Fun Run

Will I finish last at the Reindeer Stampede 5k/Fun Run?

Almost certainly not. Half the 5K field finished slower than 39:50, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:02:28, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Reindeer Stampede 5k/Fun Run a good first 5K?

It is a small race (60 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 5K, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Reindeer Stampede 5k/Fun Run?

The 5K winner ran 21:25 while the median finisher took 39:50. That spread points to a mixed field, with a competitive front and a big recreational middle.
