About the 35th Annual Reindeer Run/Walk

The course runs through downtown Charleston, starting and finishing on Meeting Street near a park that spills across to the next block. The route is flat, and the surroundings are the kind of historic streetscape that makes an early winter morning feel worth getting out for. Costumes are very much part of the deal here, with a contest across categories including dogs, and prizes drawn from local restaurants and attractions.

Packet pickup the evening before is at a Half-Moon Outfitters location on Folly Road, with limited race-morning pickup available on Meeting Street. The city has parking garages nearby. Awards follow shortly after the last runners finish.

Common Questions About the 35th Annual Reindeer Run/Walk

Will I finish last at the 35th Annual Reindeer Run/Walk?

Almost certainly not. Half the 3.1 Miles field finished slower than 37:58, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:22:12, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the 35th Annual Reindeer Run/Walk a good first 3.1 Miles?

With 3,093 finishers there are runners at every pace, so you are never out on your own. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 3.1 Miles, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the 35th Annual Reindeer Run/Walk?

The 3.1 Miles winner ran 13:44 while the median finisher took 37:58. That spread points to a broad, mostly recreational field rather than a race dominated by club runners.
