About the Red Apple Run for Diabetes

The course runs on the Cape Fear River Trail, starting from the Jordan Soccer Complex trailhead. The surface is trail, and the route follows the river, so the surroundings are mostly trees and water rather than pavement and storefronts. Both distance options are timed, and walkers are welcome in either.

Packet pickup runs the evening before at a local sporting goods store, with race-morning pickup available if you miss it. Parking is at the soccer complex where the race starts, and there is plenty of it. Awards follow the last finishers by a short window.

Common Questions About the Red Apple Run for Diabetes

Will I finish last at the Red Apple Run for Diabetes?

Almost certainly not. Half the 3.1 Miles field finished slower than 38:35, and the last recorded finisher came in around 2:05:13, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Red Apple Run for Diabetes a good first 3.1 Miles?

It is a small race (106 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 3.1 Miles, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Red Apple Run for Diabetes?

The 3.1 Miles winner ran 18:59 while the median finisher took 38:35. That spread points to a broad, mostly recreational field rather than a race dominated by club runners.
