About the Portland Thanksgiving Day 4 miler
The course runs a couple of loops through the Historic Old Port and Downtown Districts, so you get the full city feel, cobblestones and all. It is a road race on Thanksgiving morning, which means the streets are quieter than usual and the air is usually cold. A kids' shorter race starts at Monument Square and turns back at the courthouse.
Parking is free in the garage at One City Center off Congress Street. There is no bag check on site, so travel light. After the race, runners of legal drinking age are welcome at the Shipyard Tap Room on Newbury Street, complimentary beer included if you bring your bib. The race also runs a food drive, so consider bringing something non-perishable.
