The course runs through the Rockefeller State Preserve on wide carriage roads that have been there for generations. You pass stone walls, small bridges, open fields with livestock, stretches of forest, and views of the Hudson River near the start and finish at Rockwood Hall. The surface is firm packed dirt throughout, no pavement at any point.
