About the Phylicia Carson Memorial 5k
This race is a memorial run for a local police officer killed in the line of duty, and the morning reflects that. The route starts and ends at the police department, heads out along a parkway, turns down a side street to a dead end, and comes back the same way. It is an out-and-back on road, mostly flat from what is described.
Food trucks are on site after the finish, and there are kids activities as well. The start-area program includes remarks from Officer Carson's family and fellow officers before runners head out, which sets a tone that carries through the whole morning.
